My Access Checker has changed

Do you want to know if you can ask to join the NDIS now? Use the new NDIS Access Checklist to find out.

There is a law that sets out who is able to join the NDIS. Some of the rules say that at the moment the NDIS is only available to people who live in certain areas and/or are within certain age limits. The NDIS has to say no to people who want to join when they don’t meet all of the rules set out in the law, so it is good to know what the law says before you ask to join.

The NDIS set up My Access Checker on their website to try to make it easy to understand who can join the NDIS according to the law. Some people were having trouble using My Access Checker because it was complicated. Many people also they thought it was a way to officially ask to join the NDIS. So it is very good news that the NDIS has got rid of My Access Checker and made a new checklist called the NDIS Access Checklist so people can see if they meet the rules right now.

It is also important to note that the new NDIS Access Checklist only helps you work out if you will probably meet the rules about joining the NDIS. The NDIS law says that the only official way to ask to join is through the Access Request Form, which the NDIS sends out to people that have asked for it. So once you have used new NDIS Access Checklist and think that you will be able to join, you will then have to ring up the NDIS (or ask someone to ring for you) to ask then to send out the official Access Request Form.

This will be especially helpful if you are in the new NDIS area of Nepean/Blue Mountains in New South Wales.

Disability Loop congratulates the NDIS for listening to the people who were confused by My Access Checker. We hope that the new NDIS Access Checklist will be much less complicated.
