NDIS Information Loop Project Officer

Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) is the national voice of people with disability in Australia. AFDO leads 10 people with disability organisations representing 200,000 people with disability, holds Australia’s sole DPI vote and was critical in disability reform including the United Nations Convention on the rights of Persons with disability (UNCRPD) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

We are looking for a professional with experience of working in the disability sector to assist with our NDIS Information Loop (Disability Loop) project. The project is critical in providing information and awareness to people with disability regarding the implementation of the NDIS.

This project is responsible for providing timely and relevant information on our Disability Loop website, report writing, training people with disability organisations and developing champions within people with disability communities. Excellent written and interpersonal skills and experience in engaging with people with disabilities is essential. Experience in working with people with disability organisations and experience in training are desirable.

The position is full-time, and the salary is based on skills and experience.

Position Description: Project Officer - NDIS Information Loop project

Position Summary

AFDO have received funding from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to provide an NDIS Information Loop distributing NDIS information to the disability sector and people with disability, and providing feedback from people with disability to the NDIA. As part of this process AFDO will work with people with disability organisations directly to increase the knowledge and awareness of the NDIS to people with disability organisations and people with disability, and set up and maintain ongoing dialogue between people with disability and the NDIA.

AFDO will also gather a range of NDIS experiences from people with disability, issues that can be collated into a paper showing AFDO’s learnings and possible resolutions, as well as hold a series of workshops and webinars with people with disability organisations and people with disability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of all aspects of the NDIS Information Loop project with respect to the timely achievement of deliverables, within agreed budgets and performance levels and the reporting of these
  • Attend meetings with the NDIA when necessary
  • Engage with staff of NDIA to ensure information on NDIS is current
  • Plan, coordinate and promote workshops and webinars
  • Assist with developing and edit content for workshops and webinars
  • Summarise and report outcomes from workshops and webinars
  • Develop content for the ‘Disability Loop’ website and e-news
  • Build and maintain relationships with disability organisations, NDIA, and people with disability
  • Undertake written and design work including reports, articles, information sheets and other relevant publications as needed
  • Develop a practical guide on the meaning of ‘reasonable and necessary supports’ for people with disability
  • Identify and train ‘champions’ within local disability communities
  • Develop ‘train the trainer’ program
  • Collect positive stories from people with disability to share through the Disability Loop website and eNews
  • Other duties as required

Key Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed project management skills including facilitation and resourcing of meetings and consultations
  • Ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to influence and negotiate to build consensus on key issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of disability policy, particularly the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, organise work and achieve objectives within timelines and budget
  • Ability to work in a sensitive, complex and demanding environment with a high degree of autonomy and self-management
  • Ability to both work independently and collaboratively within a team

Working Relationships

The Project Officer will report directly to the Senior Manager – NDIS Information Loop project, and will have a working relationship with AFDO staff managed by the CEO.
