First NDIS ILC grant applications now open

Yesterday the NDIS announced that for the first time, Information, Linkage and Capacity Building (ILC) grant applications are now open.

There is an Australian Capital Territory (ACT) based grant, and a national grant.

The NDIS will provide ILC grants (money for projects) to successful organisations.

What is ILC?

The NDIS is made up of two parts:

  1. NDIS plans (individual funded packages) for eligible people with disability, and
  2. Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) for all people with disability

ILC was being designed during the trial period. It’s ready now and will begin operating around July this year.

The Local Area Coordination (LAC) part of ILC has already begun, but this article talks about the other parts of the ILC, which are new.

What can my organisation apply for?

The grants that are open now are:

  1. ILC Jurisdictional Based Grants – ACT
  • Under $10,000
  • Over $10,000
  1. ILC National Readiness Grants

The applications opened yesterday, January 24. They will close on March 8, 2PM AEDT.

Successful applicants should have access to the funding to start delivering their projects and activities by around July 01, 2017.

How can my organisation apply for one or both grants?

The grant applications are via online forms:

  1. ILC ACT Grants under $10,000
  2. ILC ACT Grants over $10,000
  3. ILC National Readiness Grants

Before you get started on that, check out the Application Packs on the Department of Social Services Community Grants Hub.

A very helpful inclusion in these packs is a PDF with all of the questions that you will see in the online form (the Demonstrated Application Forms). These can help you prepare all of your answers before you begin applying, because you won’t be able to see all of the questions at once using the online form. The PDFs are for reference only though, you can’t apply using them.

How can my organisation learn more about the ILC before thinking about applying for a grant?

  1. Become familiar with everything ILC. Read Disability Loop plain language articles NDIS ILC Toolkit, Program Guidelines, FAQ and Outcomes Framework Discussion Starter, NDIS ILC Commissioning Framework has been released and search our website for more ILC info.
  2. Find everything you need to know from the NDIS ILC page
  3. Check out the ILC FAQs for organisations page on the NDIS website

When will more ILC grants be available?

ILC will gradually roll out around the rest of the country:

  • July 1, 2018 in South Australia and New South Wales,
  • July 1, 2019 in Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland.
  • The start dates for Western Australia and Northern Territory haven’t been decided yet.
