AFDO NDIS Champion Sarah ButlerHi my name is Sarah was born in England. She now lives in NSW. Since 2013 Sarah has been travelling to universities, private colleges, TAFE’s, disability organisations and similar organisations to speak about the National Disability Insurance Scheme. She continues to build networks with other organisations and services to promote the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

"Having been a Living Life My Way Champion, and now being an NDIS Champion is very important to me. It makes me feel valued," says Sarah.

Since 2012 Sarah has spoken at conferences in New Zealand, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. She has received two encouragement awards and was nominated for an Inspiration Individual Achievement award by Autism Spectrum Australia.

Sarah has a Diploma of Business, Disability, Case Management and Certificate IV in Mental Health. Her next education goal is to undertake the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and the Diploma in Training and Design or vocational education and training. She would like to continue to develop her skills related to providing training and support for people with disabilities to advocate for themselves.

Sarah was one of the first people to attend Uni 2 Beyond (formally the Inclusive Education Program), at the University of Sydney through the Centre for Disability Studies. This initiative gives people with intellectual disability the opportunity to go to university classes and experience university life.

About the NDIS Champions program

Would your business, organisation or community group benefit from a free information session on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), delivered by a person with disability in your local area?

Do you want to know more about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)? Do you want to understand what it will mean for people with disability?

The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) has recently employed and trained 30 people with disabilities from all over Australia to become NDIS Champions - to deliver reliable, fact-checked information about the NDIS in their local communities.

NDIS Champions presentations have answers to the most frequently asked questions, including:

  • What is the NDIS?
  • Who can access it?
  • Why do we need it?
  • How does it work?
  • What do I need to do?
  • NDIS Plans
  • And more

If your business, organisation, or community group would benefit from a free information session on the NDIS, you can fill out an Expression of interest form (online or PDF), or contact your local Champion directly using the contact details on the Champions' page.

Note: NDIS Champions presentations were free during late 2016, but the project funding for this has ended. The Champions we trained are now working independently as presenters, and are charging modest fees to cover their time, expenses and expertise. Contact your local NDIS Champion to find out more.
