Queensland announces it's first NDIS sites: Townsville, Charters Towers and Palm Island

Queenslanders have been waiting a long time to hear about when the NDIS will come to the sunshine state. On September 25, the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments told the public that Queensland will have three trial sites starting in January 2016 - six months before the full roll out begins in July.
New information about NDIS and housing

When the Commonwealth, New South Wales and Victorian governments recently signed the bilateral agreements for the full rollout of the NDIS, some information about disability housing support was included in the documents. This housing news is the first new information on how the NDIS might help solve the housing problems of people with disability. However, the housing information is very ‘high-level’ and complicated.

There are two different trials being held at the same time in Western Australia. The first trial is the NDIS trial that is just like all the NDIS trials sites in the other states and territories. The second trial is called ‘My Way’ and it is being run by the Western Australian state government.

Two years ago a new law was made, called the NDIS Act 2013. This law has rules and instructions in it about how the NDIS should work. The Government thinks it is a good idea to look back on the Act now to see if it can be made better. They want people to tell them their thoughts about it. This is a very good opportunity for you to have a say because you might be able to help the Government think of things that are important.

The federal government has worked with the state governments of Victoria and New South Wales to sign a bilateral agreement. Back in July we wrote an article called "Possible changes to the NDIA Board". Last Friday, the Federal Government placed an ad in the Australian Financial Review to find new members of the NDIA Board. People with disability and disability advocates are very worried, especially because the ad did not say that they were looking for people with disabilities to fill these roles.
